I was born, Ronald David Spear, February 11, 1924, in Longpine, California. I did my growing up years in a little town in northern California called Carlotta. My father’s ranch was on the Yaeder River. There I spent many, many happy days and years working with my father on his ranch. Being raised with horses, at 6, I was an expert rider for my age. As a young man I spent a few years falling timber in the Red Woods. At the age of 20, I was drafted into World War II Army Medical Corp.
Upon returning home after the war, at the urging of my mother, I went to Pacific Union College. My mother had dedicated me to the Adventist ministry before I was born. I finished my theological ministry, was ordained, and went to Africa in the 50’s. I was married to Betty Mink in 1947. Two children were born to this marriage—John Randal Spear and David Larry Spear. The oldest boy, Randy was killed in 1969 in Vietnam. He was in charge of helicopter recovery. Randy left behind a wife and a baby. Larry has been in aviation for 34 years and is a Captain with Southwest Airlines.
1972 was the last time Betty and I returned from Tanzania Africa. Upon our return we had the second tragedy—the death of our grandson caused by a brain tumor. After returning home, I served in a large church—Vallejo Drive Seventh-day Adventist Church—located in Glendale California.
I have served in several positions in the Adventist ministry—as an Evangelist, Union Lay-activity Secretary, and finally, Field Representative for the Review and Herald at the General Conference. After a few years I resigned my position and entered into self-supporting work or what is sometimes called the independent ministry. I started the Our Firm Foundation magazine in 1984. This magazine has been a monthly magazine now for about 23 years. The Lord has richly blessed me as Executive Editor of this magazine which I resigned my position in the year 2006.
I am now 83 years old and legally blind, but God has given me a marvelous memory in Scripture and Spirit of Prophecy. I continue to preach across America a couple of times a month. I was told that I should retire; but when God retires me, I will quite breathing. My love for Christ, His sacrifice, and the love for souls has driven me around the world many, many times preaching on almost every continent.
I am known around the world as a reformer to help the laity, pastors, and leaders to understand the great messages that God has given us—the three angels’ messages, the fourth angel’s message, the cleansing of the sanctuary message, and the 2,300 day prophecy. It has been my desire and attempt to bring Ellen White’s writings before the church and the world. Our prophet wrote 23 million inspired words for the Seventh-day Adventist remnant people.
I have written many, many books on the Adventist message. The recent books are, Retreating Toward Egypt; Rebellion; Our Greatest Need; and The Final Generation And The Fourth Angel’s Message. One year ago I wrote a 60 page book called, The Rejection Of The 1888 Message And Its Messengers. These books can be obtained by writing to 3641 Hill Loop Rd., Kettle Falls, WA 99141 or by emailing to spebet1@aol.com.
My preaching and writing can be best explained in the following Scriptures and Spirit of Prophecy:
“Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” 2 Corinthians 7:1.
“The past fifty years have not dimmed one jot or principle of our faith as we received the great and wonderful evidences that were made certain to us in 1844, after the passing of the time. The languishing souls are to be confirmed and quickened according to His Word. . . . Not a word is changed or denied. That which the Holy Spirit testified to as truth after the passing of the time, in our great disappointment, is the solid foundation of truth. The pillars of truth were revealed, and we accepted the foundation principles that have made us what we are—Seventh-day Adventists, keeping the commandments of God and having the faith of Jesus.
“Have not the hearts of Christ's disciples burned within them as He has talked with us by the way and opened to us the Scriptures? Has not the Lord Jesus opened to us the Scriptures, and presented to us things kept secret from the foundation of the world?—Letter 326, December 4, 1905, to W. C. White.” The Upward Look, 352.
May God bless all those who are seeking to know truth and to live it by the power of the Holy Spirit in this final crisis hour. Jesus is coming sooner than when we believed.
“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.” Romans 13:11-12.
The website that has been established for me will carry messages that will prepare lives for eternity. God bless you!
Sincerely, Elder Ron Spear
